Psalm 145.4: One generation shall commend your works to another, and shall declare your mighty acts.

Derek Prince

He received world-world recognition as a primary leader of the Charismatic Renewal Movement of Christianity during the 1960's to the late 1990's. Born Peter Derek Vaughn Prince in Bangalore, India, he was the son of an officer in the British Army. At an early age he was sent to England where he was educated at Eaton and Kings College in Cambridge. There he majored in logic, linguistics and philosophy. At age 23 he was the youngest person ever appointed as a professor of philosophy. During the World War II, he served in a non-combative position as a medic in the British Army, mainly in northern Africa.

Although religion was not an important aspect of his life, he took a King James Version Bible to study while being deployed. During this time, he had a significant spiritual conversion while stationed in Scotland. Following the war, he mustered-out of the British Army in Jerusalem, Palestine. There he met and married Lydia Christensen, a Danish Missionary who ran an orphanage for girls in the town of Ramallah, north of Jerusalem. He immediately became a father to eight daughters of Jewish and Palestinian nationality. During the Israeli War of Independence in 1948, they became trapped between the Arab and Israeli armies. Evacuated from Jerusalem, they moved to London, England.

Derek's background in philosophy and languages gave him a straight forward ability to translate the complex nature of the Christian Faith into practical living. The combination of his logical approach to various subjects and his British accent made him a popular speaker. From 1953 to 1959 he was the headmaster of a teacher training academy in Kenya, Africa. While there, he developed a method of teaching which is still in use today. By the 1960's he had moved to the United State where he became a popular Bible teacher in conferences and seminars. From Ft. Lauderdale to Portland, Oregon, to Angola and England his speaking ministry grew. Before the fall of Communism, he was addressing large groups in Eastern Europe. His work had a tremendous impact of renewal in churches of many denominations and places.

Derek's study of the Bible lead him to become one of the most respected Bible teachers in the twentieth century. His radio teaching is still broadcast around the world and on the internet. He has published nearly 50 books, 600 audios and 100 videos on the subjects of teaching the Christian faith, marriage and family, and prayer, many of which have been translated and published in more than 100 languages. He spent his life traveling, explaining, and teaching the Bible in the most simple matter.
